Yield: 2 1/2 cups, 4 servings

Hemp milk takes only minutes to make, since hempseeds don’t need to be soaked.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups water
  • 1/2 cup hempseeds, unsoaked
  • 3 medjool dates, pitted
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • pinch salt

Equipment

  • measuring cups
  • measuring spoons
  • blender
  • rubber spatula

Put 1 cup of the water, hempseeds, dates, optional vanilla extract, and salt in a blender. Process on high speed until smooth. Add the remaining 1 cup of water and process until smooth. Stored in a sealed container in the refrigerator, Hemp Milk will keep for 3 days. It tends to separate, so shake well before using.

I’ve made hemp milk sweetening it with dates too.. either Barhi or Medjool dates.  The Barhi dates add a caramel taste and it’s delicious.  I prefer the dates as a sweetener because you get the fiber and nutrients of the fruit, as well as the sweet taste.

Hi JoAnne,

Yes, dates are a wonderful natural sweetener, and much healthier than concentrated ones. So if you like the taste, use them!

That’s a lot of hemp seeds for such a small amount of water.  I tried this recipe and didn’t like the taste.  Are you sure about the amounts?

Hi Ana,

If this is too rich for you (3 parts water to 1 part hemp seeds), try 4 to 1, so 2 cups water for 1/2 cup hemp seeds. (I like it richer). Also, you may need some sweetener, as hemp seeds are a little bitter.

I do 4 cups of water to 1/2 cup hemp seed and two dates. This is what I give my 1 year old instead of cows milk. He loves it!

What’s great about these nut and seed milk recipes (unlike boxed ones) is you can make it as thin or as rich as you like!

Hi Suanne,

Yes, no need to strain!
