Yield: 2 cups, 4 servings
Hemp milk takes only minutes to make, since hempseeds don’t need to be soaked.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups water
- 1/2 cup hempseeds, unsoaked
- 2 teaspoons maple syrup or agave nectar
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
Equipment
- measuring cups
- measuring spoons
- blender
- rubber spatula
Put the water, hempseeds, maple syrup, and optional vanilla extract in a blender. Process on high speed until smooth. Stored in a sealed container in the refrigerator, Hemp Milk will keep for 5 days. It tends to separate, so shake well before using.

I’ve made hemp milk sweetening it with dates too.. either Barhi or Medjool dates. The Barhi dates add a caramel taste and it’s delicious. I prefer the dates as a sweetener because you get the fiber and nutrients of the fruit, as well as the sweet taste.

Hi JoAnne,
Yes, dates are a wonderful natural sweetener, and much healthier than concentrated ones. So if you like the taste, use them!

That’s a lot of hemp seeds for such a small amount of water. I tried this recipe and didn’t like the taste. Are you sure about the amounts?

Hi Ana,
If this is too rich for you (3 parts water to 1 part hemp seeds), try 4 to 1, so 2 cups water for 1/2 cup hemp seeds. (I like it richer). Also, you may need some sweetener, as hemp seeds are a little bitter.
