Raw Food Equipment—My Top 12 Tools

In this post from my New to Raw blog series, I’m going to take you inside my kitchen and introduce you to the simple appliances and manual tools that decorate my counter and line my walls.  These are the culinary “BFFs” I rely on to create raw food magic.

12 of My Favorite Raw Kitchen Helpers

Stocking your kitchen with the appropriate equipment (and ingredients) makes food preparation easy. Raw food gear breaks down into three main categories.  I’ve listed them here with some of my favorites in each.

Bowls, Pans, and Utensils

  • Box grater
  • Garlic press
  • Mesh bag (for straining nut milks; optional)
  • Spiralizer (for creating veggie pasta)
  • Peeler

Electrical Appliances

  • Blender
  • Coffee/spice grinder (for grinding seeds)
  • Food processor
  • Juicer

Knives and Cutting Boards

  • Cutting board, wood or bamboo
  • 5” serrated knife
  • 8” chef’s knife

Don’t feel you need to buy a ton of equipment all at once.  Great recipes like my raw Swiss Chard and Apple Soup require nothing more than things you probably already have -- measuring utensils, a knife and cutting board, and a blender.

The soup is hearty and wholesome and can be prepared in a matter of minutes using a good blender.  I recommend the KitchenAid KSB560 or the Vita-mix High Speed Blender.
