Raw Food Child’s Play: Salad Spinning

So many parents I know are understandably worried about what their children are putting into their bodies.  A terrific way to turn young eaters into healthy eaters for life is to turn them into masters of the art of salad-making.

A lot of kids and adults, too, have the misconception that salad is "bunny food."  While salads can be light, it's true; a raw food salad can also be hearty and satisfying.  It all depends on the ingredients you choose.  I have over 2 dozen salad recipes in my book Raw Food Made Easy for 1 or 2 People, with lots of variations and dressing recipes, too. 

Raw Food Taco Salad

The key to good flavor in a taco salad is using delicious raw salsa and guacamole.

Rather than a corn-based fried taco, the base of my raw taco salad is crunchy romaine lettuce.  For the dressing, I combine a serving of my guacamole recipe and my salsa recipe

Guacamole and salsa are made without cooking and two of the most popular raw food recipes on earth.  Both of these recipes feature the bold flavors associated with Mexican cuisine:

  • Cilantro
  • Cayenne Pepper
  • Jalapeno Chilis

Be sure to monitor just how much spice is going into the recipe to keep the flavor appropriate to a young palate.
