Many of my subscribers have written to me recently to say that they want to eat more raw food, but they’re afraid what purchasing fresh fruits and veggies will do to their food budget. Many of the recipes in my books and DVDs are actually quite affordable. But for a great guide on cost-effective healthy eating, you should check out Ellen Jones’ Vegan on $4 a Day.
The Book Publishing Company, the firm that publishes my books Raw Food Made Easy for 1 or 2 People Revised and Raw for Dessert, also publishes Ellen’s. She and I met for the first time last year at Chicago Vegfest, and our paths have crossed several times at other book expo events.
Ellen’s warm and welcoming personality is mirrored in her book. She shows readers how they can shop smart to eat well on a budget. In addition to being a healthy eating advocate, Ellen is an award-winning investigative journalist and financial consultant. That makes her extremely gifted at laying out the facts and figures of vegan eating.
What I really love about Ellen’s book is that she teaches basic, logical money-saving strategies, such as buying in bulk, stocking your pantry with dried beans, grains, and greens; and cooking from scratch instead of eating out.
