A Raw Chocolate Drink to Warm Up to This Winter

As a child, a steaming cup of whole milk cocoa topped with a marshmallow was a great way to warm up after playing outside in the Chicago snow.

As an adult, however, I find a nutritious smoothie is just as delicious, and much more comforting than a mug full of dairy fat and sugar. That’s what made me decide to upload a new Chocolate Green Smoothie demonstration to my YouTube Channel.

In the Mood

You may have heard the good news that dark chocolate is a natural mood enhancer and also contains antioxidants. That’s great at this time of year when the short days and post-holiday blahs can get you down.  There’s another reason I love to a raw Chocolate Green Smoothie, too.   The strong, delicious flavor of chocolate turns out to be a great way to conceal the taste and even the color of the greens.

Sweet and chocolate-y brown, a raw chocolate smoothie appeals to a youngster’s palate.  It’s a wonderful afterschool snack, and an all-weather pick-me-up to enjoy after a day of swimming or sledding.  Chocolate Green Smoothies appeal to grown-ups who can enjoy several servings of heart-friendly greens disguised as chocolate goodness.

One thing I want you to watch for in the video is an important strategy for better blending.  Always put your liquid, in this case water, in the bottom of your blender, followed by the other ingredients.  The water makes it easier for the blades of the blender of make quick work of the greens. Click here for a printed copy of the recipe.

If you’ve created an amazing smoothie recipe of your own, I hope you’ll share it in the comments section.  I’d love to add it to my repertoire.

Hi Taris,

I’m using a kitchen Aid 5-speed blender. You can find it in under the “Raw Gear” section of my site.
