Good water is important, especially in summer time.  How convenient then, that sweet summer melons have plenty of H2O, especially – as the name suggests – WATERmelon.  Watermelons are rich in Vitamin A, B Vitamins, Vitamin C, Lycopene, and Potassium and, of course, Vitamin Yummy.

Professional chefs take great pains to stock their kitchens with the best equipment for creating their culinary masterpieces.  You should, too!  And to help you, I’ve created a YouTube video demo that shares some of my best tips for setting up your kitchen for easy raw food meal preparation.  It’s just four minutes, but it’s information-packed.  

Do you think there are tons of gadgets and gizmos you need to buy to make your kitchen raw food ready?  Not at all!  As you’ll see in the demo, there are really only four key pieces of equipment required: a large chef’s knife, a wood or bamboo cutting board, a blender and a food processor.  That’s the beauty of raw food preparation:  you can take simple fresh ingredients, do a minimal amount of ‘puttering’ with them, and have a meal on the table in no time at all.

I like gadgets and at the top of my ‘favorites list’ is my handy-dandy spiral slicer.   And right now, with the heat of summer at its peak, my spiral slicer is the tool I grab when I want to make a refreshing, nutritious medley of raw vegetables with my Asian-inspired raw food Mock Peanut Sauce.

In my book Raw Food Made Easy for 1 or 2 People, I go into some detail about the soaking process.  The tip I wanted to share with you today is that after you've finished soaking nuts or seeds and drained off the soaking liquid, it's important to let them air-dry in the colander or strainer for a few minutes prior to putting them in a storage container.
