New Year’s Eve is a wonderful night of nostalgia, hope and celebration.  And while many people attend parties to ring out the old year and ring in the new, others (like me) enjoy spending a quiet New Year’s Eve at home.  

The biggest challenge of being a homebody on New Year’s Eve is figuring out what to eat.  I don’t want to get weighted down by a heavy meal or snacks; my goal is to keep my appetite satisfied so I can be wide awake to watch the ball drop.  (I’m normally an early riser, so counting down to midnight can be tough.)

That’s why I like to spend New Year’s Eve feasting on raw food appetizers.  I can prepare a variety of recipes early in the evening and nibble on them throughout the night.  And since the food is natural and unprocessed, I don’t have to worry about it making me feel sluggish and sleepy.

Raw ‘finger foods,’ including snacks, hors d’oeuvres and munchies, are a great when you gather with friends, family, and colleagues.  Imagine a platter piled high with fresh and dried fruits, raw nuts, and sliced vegetables.  It’s easy to put together and looks beautiful, too.  It needs no refrigeration and stays fresh and delicious for hours.

East-Meets-West Raw Foods Dinner Party
In the San Francisco Bay area where I live, the influence of Eastern cultures from across the Pacific can be seen in stores, architecture, and especially cuisine.  Chinese, Japanese, Thai, and other Asian restaurants are extremely popular here.  And that influence is the inspiration for the party idea I’d like to share with you in this post:  an East-Meets-West dinner party.

In my experience, learning how to prepare raw food is just more fun when you do it with a friend. (Learning how to EAT raw food is just plain easy, of course.  All you have to do is dig in and enjoy mouthful after mouthful of fresh, wholesome, nutritious, and incredibly delicious flavors.)
